Who we are
WhyLens is a Tableau dashboard extension made by Khaled (“WhyLens”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at khaled.hoza@gmail.com.
What data WhyLens reads
When you add WhyLens to a dashboard, it uses the official Tableau Extensions API to read:
- Worksheet summary data — the aggregated rows and columns shown in the worksheets on the dashboard (the same data you would see with “View Data → Summary”). WhyLens does not request full underlying (row-level) data.
- Dashboard and worksheet names, and field names and data types, so it can label charts.
- Environment details such as the Tableau language and locale (to pick English or Arabic), whether the dashboard is in authoring mode (to show the Configure button), and workbook formatting (to match fonts if you choose).
Where your data goes
Nowhere. All analysis, charts and exports (PDF and PowerPoint) are produced in your browser, inside the Tableau dashboard. WhyLens makes no network requests carrying your data, and has no server that receives, stores or processes it.
Settings
Your choices in the Configure dialog (selected worksheets, measures, display names, language, colours and per-chart field changes) are saved in the Tableau workbook using the Extensions settings API. They stay with your workbook, under your organisation's control.
Hosting and technical logs
The WhyLens files (HTML, JavaScript and images) are served from Cloudflare. As with any website, when Tableau loads the extension, Cloudflare receives standard request information such as IP address, browser type and time of request, which it may log for security and reliability. This request contains no Tableau data. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Cookies, analytics and tracking
WhyLens does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Third-party code
WhyLens bundles open-source libraries (Apache ECharts, jsPDF, html2canvas, PptxGenJS) and the Tableau Extensions API library. They are served from the same location as WhyLens and run in your browser; none of them sends your data elsewhere.
Emails you send us
If you email us for support or feedback, we use your email address and message only to reply and to improve WhyLens. We do not sell or share them. Ask us at any time to delete your messages.
Future paid plans
If we introduce paid plans, licence checks may need to send a licence key and a site identifier to our server. We will update this policy before that happens, and we will never send your Tableau data.
Children
WhyLens is a business tool and is not directed at children.
